Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Her

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Her

So you want to try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? That’s great! Let me fill you in on what to expect from your first class.

Not sure if you’re ready to participate? That’s ok! You can sit and watch, meet the instructors, ask questions, and get acquainted with the space.

What to wear

Let the instructor know if you will be attending a gi or no-gi class so that we can make sure there’s a loaner gi available for you to use that day. It is best to wear form-fitting workout clothes, such as yoga pants or sweatpants; compression clothing or rash guards used for swimming. If you need to wear protective gear, such as a knee brace or mouth guard, please do so.

Do NOT wear clothing that is overly baggy, made from thin or delicate fabrics, contain hard components (like zippers or buttons), has belt loops or open pockets. It is important not to wear clothing that allows for a finger or toe to get caught and cause injury to you or your training partner.

Hygiene

Keep your fingernails and toenails short. Remove all makeup and piercings. If you have long hair, tie it back or braid it so that it doesn’t interfere with your training.

Shoes are not allowed on the mats, and bare feet are not allowed off of the mats.

Before your first class

Show up a little early to introduce yourself. Our gym is very friendly and everyone will be happy to meet you. If you need to stretch, do so before warm-ups begin.

Don’t forget to bring something to hydrate yourself, an open mind, and a positive attitude! You are awesome for trying something new!
