Bells and Meditation

In Buddhism, bells are often used during meditation practices, where they help to keep the practitioner's attention focused to the present moment, in addition to fostering a sense of calm and peace.

They are also helpful when you would like to create an atmosphere of purity, the sound of a ringing bell can clear space and ward off negative energies.

If used to mark the beginning of a meditation session, you can recite the gatha:
“With body, speech and mind in perfect oneness
I send my heart along with the sound of the bell.
May all who hear it awaken from forgetfulness
And transcend all anxiety and sorrow.”

When your meditation is complete, you can end your session by ringing the bell once more.
